Clinical diagnosis that may include LLQ but typically doesn’t involve alarm symptoms (above)

Treatment should focus on covering anaerobes and GN flora. Treat for 7-10 days. Options:

1)      Cipro + flagyl

2)      SMX/TMP+ flagyl

3)      Amox/clav

4)      Moxi (if cannot take flagyl or beta lactam)

 

 

 

Non-drug treatment of diverticulitis:

1)      Liquid diet or bowel rest

2)      High fiber diet once episode resolved

3)      Follow-up colonscopy in 2-6 weeks

4)      NO evidence for avoiding seeds/nuts
